Berklee survivor Ryan Burns is a luminary in the Seattle music scene, being known for his subtle wit, be it verbally or on the keyboards, Burns has brought his special touch to a diverse array of projects, including jazz groups Harrybu McCage (Matt Cameron of Pearl Jam's jazz project), Matt Jorgensen +451 (Earshot Jazz Magazine's "Best Acoustic Group" of 2003), Tom Marriott’s Willie Nelson Project, and Bebop and Destruction (2004 Seattle Weekly "Best Jazz/Avant-Garde Band"), rock groups 17th Chapter, Katherine Moore Situation and Black Vinyl All-Stars, to the Tacoma Symphony.
Known mostly for his work on Fender Rhodes and other electric keyboards, the piano has also been a prominent voice for the composer/musician. Burns has released two piano trio CD’s as a bandleader, most recently “Tree-O” (Odd Bird Records 2007) with bassist Geoff Cooke and drummer Jose Martinez. A third Ryan Burns Trio CD of standards recorded live, with bassist Jeff Johnson and drummer Tad Britton is due to be released sometime in 2008.
Burns has also worked with notable artists such as Rick Mandyck, Mark Taylor, Hans Teuber, Tom Marriott, Matt Jorgensen, Steve Luceno, Dawn Clement, Wayne Horvitz, Edmonia Jarrett, Jabo Ward, Peter DiStefano (Porno for Pyros, Jane's Addiction), Roger Fisher (Heart), Corey Christiansen, Dan Heck, Geoff Harper, Chuck Metcalf, Buddy Catlett, Kate Hammett-Vaughn, Mike Stone, Byron Vannoy, Ron Weinstein, Zac Melang, Kimo, Tobias Neumann, Craig Flory, John Wicks, Glenn Cannon, Rob Davis, and others.
Burns is on faculty at University of Puget Sound and Seattle Drum School. He is also a nationally published writer, his articles being featured in All About Jazz.com and All About Jazz-Seattle.
